Spatial variation in species diversity and composition of flea assemblages in small mammalian hosts: geographical distance or faunal similarity?

چکیده
Patterns of spatial variation in biological diversity represent one of the central themes in modern biogeography and ecology (Rosenzweig, 1995; Gaston & Williams, 1996). Much of the knowledge about these patterns available to date is based strictly on studies of free-living organisms (Rosenzweig, 1995), whereas patterns of parasite diversity have until now attracted Ramon Science Center and Mitrani Department of Desert Ecology, Jacob Blaustein Institute for Desert Research, Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, Mizpe Ramon, Israel, UMR CNRS-UMII 5119 Ecosystemes Lagunaires, University of Montpellier II, Montpellier Cedex, France, Desert Animal Adaptations and Husbandry, Wyler Department of Dryland Agriculture, Jacob Blaustein Institute for Desert Research, BenGurion University of the Negev, Sede Boqer Campus, Israel and Department of Zoology, University of Otago, Dunedin, New Zealand

Fish diversity and assemblages according to distance from source along a coastal river gradient (Ehania River south-east of Ivory Coast)
Fish assemblage was investigated during the study of longitudinal profile of the Ehania River Basin in south-eastern Côte d’Ivoire. This area is subjected to intense human activities with many plantations (palm tree, banana, pineapple, coffee, rubber and cocoa). Samples were collected, with gillnets of different mesh sizes, through 6 sampling surveys during dry and rainy seasons from February 2...

Abstract Spatiotemporal variation in fish assemblage structure was conducted from January to December 2015 in order to know the impacts of sanctuary on ichthyo-faunal diversity with its indices and major hydrological factors from six sampling stations of Karatoya fish sanctuary sectioned in the river Karatoya. A total of 69 fish species was obtained from this sanctuary including 21 threatened ...
متن کاملNested pattern in flea assemblages across the host’s geographic range
Understanding non-random patterns in the taxonomic composition of communities occurring in insular or fragmented habitats remains a major goal of ecology. Nested subset patterns are one possible departure from random community assembly that has been reported for communities of both free-living and parasitic animals. Here, we investigate the effects of extrinsic factors on the occurrence of nest...

متن کاملThe relationships between cuticular hydrocarbon composition, faunal assemblages, inter-island distance, and population genetic variation in Tuscan Archipelago wasps
Until recently, studies examining the geographical distribution of insects in the Tuscan Archipelago have focused on paleogeography as the primary influence on species distributions. However, for flying insects such as Hymenoptera that may be able to disperse over water, current geographical location is likely to be more important in determining present distributions within the Archipelago. Her...
